The latest release in the Blue Lights series features Kelsey Tifton, an evidence room clerk and Lieutenant Eddie Hamer. There’s a mix of suspense and mystery with some bad timing mutual attraction and chemistry. The story reads as written by someone with knowledge of the system. McKissack has written a different type of storyline – one with corrupt cops working right along with the good cops. A few appearances from characters from other books in the Blue Lights series makes me happy as I’m a fan of the series. This is the third book in the Blue Lights series but is a standalone novel. What I’ve found by reading books by this author is: 1) that when I think I know who villain is, there’s a twist and it’s someone not on my radar, 2) the heroine are strong, driven women, and 3) there’s usually a cute dog in the story. I love Riley McKissack's books and was thrilled to see that she had a new release! I loved the plot of this book and it felt fresh and unique. The reader is confused right along with Kelsey about who she can trust. The intrigue was great, and I was surprised by the villain. Kelsey was a great heroine and really stood up for what she believes in despite the danger to herself. Eddie was so sweet and protective, but there is just enough doubt throughout the story that might make you question if he really is a good guy. The chemistry between Kelsey and Eddie was great and was evident from the very beginning. I would have loved it if they had gotten together a little bit earlier, but that's just me being greedy )
Another 5 star read! I can't wait for the next book from this author!
